Stereotypes: Neanderthal Women

About

Rebecca was invited to work closely in developing a new exhibition for the Neanderthal Museum, Germany, opening in 2024. She was primary Science Advisor, working in collaboration in designing the exhibition themes and object content.

Rebecca also created four unique audiostories, representing female characters at different life stages from girlhood to old age, ]based on real archaeological sites and finds from diverse times, climates and ecologies. Randomly assigned to visitors using a 'mystery character' card dispenser at the start of the exhibition, people discover elements in the lives of these ancient relations as five emotionally-moving chapters, connected to each of the five themed exhibition stations: Tasks, Relations, Care, Maternal Lineages, Encounters.

At the end of the exhibition, visitors stamp their card to find out the identity of the character whose narrative they have been part of: Child, Adolescent, Adult, or Elder.
